My First Blog Post!

They say that ‘Your purpose is to follow your passions’…so I guess my purpose has something to do with paper, ink, stamps, buttons, beads and glue!

I started creating paper crafts, mixed media and handcrafted jewelry in 2016 and began selling them through my Etsy shop, Laurel Tree Design Co.  I also joined the paper craft supply company Stampin' Up! as a demonstrator late in 2016.  Stampin' Up!'s high quality coordinating products make paper crafting a breeze!

I believe having a blog will be a great way to showcase what goes into making my creations, giving you an opportunity to try it yourself!  It's all about sharing the passion for the craft!  Whether it's something made using Stampin' Up! products or something from another high quality company, I hope you will enjoy seeing how it's made.

So without further adieu, here's my most recent creation.

Materials:

Card Base:  Whisper White (Thick) – 11” x 4 ¼”
Top Layer:  Crumb Cake – 5 ¼” x 4”
Sentiment:  Always Artichoke – ¾” x 2 ¾”
Dragonfly Base:  Always Artichoke – 3” x 4”
Dragonfly Top:  Copper Foil Sheet – 3” x 4”
Inks: Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant & Basic Black
Stamp Sets:  Dragonfly Dreams and Delicate Details (Sale-a-Bration)
Thinlet Dies:  Detailed Dragonfly
Embellishment:  Copper Thread
Supplies:  Stampin Dimensions, Snail Adhesive, Glue Dots and Fine Tip Glue Pen

Note: Stampin' Up! products are used exclusively; links to purchase everything you'll need to make the card yourself are available at the end of the instructions.

Instructions:

1.  Create the card base by scoring the Whisper White cardstock at 5 ½”.  Set it aside for now.
2.  For the main layer, create the background by stamping the Crumb Cake cardstock with the patterned stamp from the Dragonfly Dreams set, using three different colors of ink (Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant).

Stamp randomly around the outside, keeping the middle of the piece open.  This is where your dragonfly will go.  You can stamp some of the time with part of the stamp off the paper to make it more random.

3.  Stamp the dragonfly wings “filler” stamp in Crumb Cake toward the top center of the card.

4.  Die Cut the detailed Dragonfly in both Always Artichoke and the Copper Foil sheet.  Attach the Always Artichoke die cut dragonfly over the stamped wings using the fine tip glue pen.  Give it a minute to dry.

5.  Over that dragonfly, attach the copper foil dragonfly, applying glue only to the body portion, leaving the wings unattached.  Give it a moment to dry; then gently bend the wings up slightly so the Always Artichoke wings are visible.

6.  Stamp the sentiment ‘Enjoy your special day’ onto the small strip of Always Artichoke cardstock using Basic Black archival ink.  Notch out a triangle at one end.

7.  Curl the copper thread around your fingers and attach it randomly to the back of the sentiment with a glue dot; then adhere the sentiment to the card using dimensionals.
8.  Adhere the completed crumb cake cardstock piece to the card base using snail adhesive.

9.  On the inside of the card, use Always Artichoke ink to stamp the Delicate Details border along the top and bottom of the card.
