I've missed a few 'Make it Mondays'...busy life has gotten in the way. So here's my Friday version for the week...
Can you believe it’s already March? Easter will be here before you
know it! It’s not too early to start on
those Easter cards and decorations. I
watched a video yesterday on the cutest card/gift box combination, and just had
to try it!
I want to give props to MayMay
Helms for the idea. She always does such a
great job explaining everything, I’m not going to try to recreate the detailed
instructions – just watch her video on YouTube; you can find it here! But I will give a little background on what I
did to get this look and a couple things I did a bit differently.
The materials:
For the main body of the
card and the box ‘bottom’, any double-sided heavy cardstock you like will do. I
used Carta Bella’s ‘Little Girl’ because I loved the green with white polka
dots. The sides, top and bottom of the
card are double matted. Select a coordinating solid color cardstock for the
bottom mat (I used Sour Apple Bazzill). For
the top mat, select a pattern that compliments your main card paper; I used a green plaid design I’ve had in my
stash for ages, so I’m not even sure where it came from.
One additional thing I added that MayMay
didn’t use was a piece of the coordinating cardstock to cover the back of the
card front, since I didn’t like how the ‘flip-side’ of the Bella Carta paper
looked. I also used white ric rac trim as the drawer
pull instead of regular ribbon. I
thought it just shouted ‘Spring’! Here's a picture of all the materials cut to size:
Putting it together:
So there you have it! This is how my box turned out. I just love it (if I do say so myself!).
Can't you just see this filled like a little Easter basket? I’m going to make another one
just like this, fill them with Easter treats, and give them two my two
‘adopted’ granddaughters…that is, my best friend’s granddaughters who I feel
are just like my own!
The variations possible for this card / gift box combo are endless. Just think how
you can use this design for other holidays, birthdays, or just because. Have fun – and post pictures here of your
creations. I’d love to see them!
